Growing Silverbeet

Growing Silverbeet

30th May 2013

Well I seem to be having success growing  or
really re growing cellery from base of another one,
so today I thought I would try the same idea with
silverbeet, instead of throwing the base away.
Time will tell...
As always please comment any advice or hints you
have to help me make this a success...

Well aprox 6 weeks has passed and realized I had not
updated my blog so here is where we have fot to now.
I have harvested a few leaves already once to add to a
pasta sauce, but still seems to be a success.

Growing Cellery!

Well I saw on  Pinterest that apparently if you plant the end of a bunch of cellery in the ground it will regrow. This means in time you will be able to harvest the amount you want instead of having to buy a bunch and end up throwing most of it in the bin. I bought a half bunch, so we will see if anything happens.

Friday 31 May

Wow it has only been 4 days since I planted it and look there are shoots up already...

Saturday 13th July
Well aprox 6 weeks have passed and I realized I had not
posted any updates... so here is where we are up to.
As you can see we have lots of shoots and leaves on
very slim stalks. I have cut off a few of the leaves and
1-2 ofthe stalks to add to a stew I was making cause I could not resist.

Strawberry Plants

Strawberry Plants

Well I bought 2 fairly sickly looking strawberry plants from Kmart about 6 months ago. I Brought them home, repotted  them in some fresh potting mix, fed them with seaweed on fairly regular basis and it resulted in a fairly good crop of yummy strawberries.

Today I decided they needed some TLC so dug them up to discover I now had 5 plants! divided them up , put 2 back in the pot with fresh rich potting mix and put the rest in a hanging basket ... time will tell how these go now and hopefully we will get more strawberries!

growing garlic

Growing Garlic

In april I simply placed a few individual cloves in the soil with the tip pointing up. being in a pot I noticed they tended  to dry out fairly quickly so water a little every day.

It is May and have shoots growing well. Still watering them a little bit daily not getting too wet though .
